“Seven” for A Siren’s Call

Art in Romney Marsh 2023

"Seven" offers a reflection on the contemporary climatic crisis, drawing connections between the beginnings of both the Earth and the Church. The number seven is often associated with the seven days of creation, serving as a symbolic representation. This symbolism reflects our inherent preoccupations with mortality and our admiration of our beautiful planet. In order to examine the present-day, I have made the decision to integrate passages from the Genesis Scriptures in reference to the current environment, our humanity and the function of the ecclesiastical institution. While creating this body of work, I deliberately selected materials and procedures that are known to be harmful to my physical well-being. This deliberate choice serves as a means to emphasise the notion that our mortality is often detached from our imperative to nurture and safeguard our own existence.
